4 Ways to Love Your Neighbor
01. Share in a delicious meal
This is a great opportunity to open up your home to that neighbor you haven't connected with in a while. Especially for the elderly, making a meal can sometimes be quite a task so why not show off your cooking skills and have a warm home-cooked meal with them? Everyone loves to be cared for in this way once in a while!
Not into the thought of having people over to your house just yet with all that's been going on? Grab some takeout or bring a homemade meal along for a meetup at a local park. You could even stop by a coffee shop and treat your neighbor to a hot beverage & a sandwich!
There are lots of ways to get creative with this one. People tend to bond over food so it doesn't really matter the where or the what so much as your effort in showing your neighbor you care.
02. Send them a letter
You don't have to wait for the holiday season to send a cute card! Everyone loves getting happy mail and what's even better is a hand-written piece of mail. It's just so much more personal and authentic, you know? It really lets the person you're writing to know that you're thinking of them and took the time to put together something by hand.
In this age of computers and technology, a hand-written card or letter feels really special. It doesn't have to be anything over the top. Just a quick little note letting them know you were thinking about them can really brighten their day!
03. Mow their lawn
Especially for your elderly or disabled neighbor this gesture can be a real treasure. Mowing the lawn can take a lot of work and a fair amount of time depending on the size of the lawn so it's a very practical and useful way to show your neighbor some love. Tired parents with a house full of kids would be grateful for this kind of gesture every once in a while too!
With winter creeping in on us, mowing might be an option but in the winter months there's always the opportunity to offer to shovel or plow your neighbor's driveway. Most people aren't a fan of getting bundled up to go outside for this chore so it's a gesture that's pretty universally accepted.
04. Take a prayer walk
We're sure you've taken a casual stroll around your neighborhood before but have you ever taken a walk with a purpose? A prayer walk is the same as any other except while you're walking you take a moment to pray for your neighbors as you think of them in passing. Bonus points for asking someone you meet on the street if you can pray for them. Even if you aren't of the same faith, more often than not, people are surprisingly grateful and are excited to accept you offer.
